How to tie the Uni Knot

Uni Knot

What is a Uni Knot?

The Uni Knot, also known as the Universal Knot or the Duncan Loop, is a versatile fishing knot used to connect fishing lines to hooks, lures, or swivels. It is highly regarded for its simplicity, strength, and reliability. The Uni Knot can be tied quickly and easily, making it suitable for both beginner and experienced anglers. It forms a strong, secure connection that is resistant to slippage, ensuring that your line remains intact during intense fishing battles. The knot’s design allows it to maintain a high percentage of the line’s original strength, making it ideal for various fishing applications, including freshwater and saltwater fishing. Whether you’re casting for bass in a lake or targeting marlin in the open ocean, the Uni Knot is a valuable technique to have in your fishing arsenal.

How to tie a Uni Knot?

To tie a Uni Knot, follow these step-by-step instructions:

1. Begin by passing the line through the eye of the hook, lure, or swivel. Leave a sufficient length of line to work with.

2. Take the tag end (the loose end) and make a loop by doubling it back against the standing line.

3. With the loop formed, hold it between your thumb and index finger, creating an open space.

4. Wrap the tag end around the standing line and through the open space in the loop. Make sure to make 4-6 wraps, depending on the thickness of the line.

5. While holding the wraps in place, slowly pull the tag end to tighten the wraps snugly against the standing line.

6. Once the wraps are tight, slide the knot towards the eye of the hook, lure, or swivel.

7. To secure the knot, moisten it with water or saliva and pull both the standing line and the tag end firmly until the knot is fully tightened.

8. Trim any excess tag end closely to the knot, ensuring it doesn’t interfere with casting or fishing.

Remember to practice tying the Uni Knot a few times to become comfortable with the process. With some repetition, you’ll be able to tie it quickly and efficiently whenever you need a secure connection for your fishing endeavors.
